Fuck You Spotify!!!!!!!!!

This is an excerpt of a recent article about what $$$ an artist/band makes from digital music streaming and sales. This particular band "Uniform Motion" is out of the UK and they give us a breakdown on the rates they receive from digital music streaming/sales.

The grossest offender is "Spotify" they are the leader in music streaming and are set up to remain so. FUCK YOU Spotify and FUCK YOU too Deezer. You can suck Deez nuts.

Obviously making music for most people is a hobby and an ever elusive dream. Music is really just a popularity contest. So even if an artist was allowed to stream an online album for a reasonable $ amount per play and keep 100% of the profits it doesn't mean anyone will like said music/artist and stream it or pay money to purchase it.

That isn't the issue here. The issue is that you should be paid a fair percentage for your music that is streamed or purchased. Streaming is just like renting the music. Last I heard renting still meant paying a reasonable amount for the use of the rented item.

By the way I'm sure what Spotify pays "Uniform Motion" is different from what "Jay Z" gets paid for streaming. But I'm sure the percentage that Jay Z is getting is also a crime.

Anyway check out the excerpt and click on the link to read the entire article.

What a Band ReallyMakes from Streaming Sales

If you choose to purchase our music or use one of the ‘legal' streaming services, here's an overview of where the pennies go.

Spotify:

With Spotify, we'll get $0.0041/play.
If you listen to the album all the way through, we'll get $0.04.
If you listen to the album 10 times on Spotify, we'll get $0.40.
If you listen to it a hundred times, we'll get $4.05.
If you listen to the album 1,000 times (once a day for 3 years!) we'll get $40.50!
If you use the free version of Spotify, it won't cost you anything. Spotify will make money from ads. If you use any of the paid versions, we have no idea how they carve up the money. They only disclose this information to the Major record labels…

Deezer:

Deezer seems to pay a little more.
We've been getting $.0083/play from them. That's $0.0072/album play. If you listen to the album 10 times on Deezer, we'll get $0.72. If you listen to it a hundred times, we'll get $7.17. If you listen to the album 1,000 times (once a day for 3 years!) we'll get a whopping $71.73!
If you use the free version of Deezer, it won't cost you anything and Deezer will make money from the ads. If you use any of the paid versions, we have no idea how they carve up the money either.

eMUSIC:

eMusic is a subscription service. The cost of the album will depend on the plan you have. We get roughly $0.29/song or $2.60/album (9 songs).
