Katy Perry's 'Roar' is a rip off of Sara Bareilles's 'Brave'

Does Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” (Capitol) sound familiar? Those laid-back, “Hard Knock Life”-like synths, the midtempo rhythm track, the sweeping production on the chorus – it all sounds an awful lot like Sara Bareilles’ recent single “Brave,” which arrived four months ago.
The Internet is now teeming with side-by-side comparisons, though this version from Portkey’s Tumblr, which beat matches the songs and puts one on top of the other, is pretty definitive about the similarities. To be fair, the chord progressions differ and the lyrics from Bareilles, with help fromfun.’s Jack Antonoff, are far more uplifting and real than Perry and Team Perry, which includes Dr. Luke and Max Martin.
Of course, this will hardly matter in the long run. Perry is already well on her way to another No. 1, despite numerous throwaway lines like, “You held me down, but I got up.” She will launch the song -- the first single from her "Prism" album, due out Oct. 22 -- at MTV's Video Music Awards at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Aug. 25.
